Case study.

The STAR-MAT

Why they needed help:

Boxphish work closely with a number of schools and trusts across North Yorkshire, aided by NYES Digital to help protect staff and students from cybercrime.

NYES Digital made Boxphish aware of the cyber security issues within the Star Multi-Academy Trust, where the biggest threat was ransomware being downloaded through phishing emails. Staff were unable to identify legitimate emails from phishing attacks, resulting in lost time and decreased efficiency with online tasks.

What Boxphish did:

Boxphish delivered phishing simulations to train staff on how to identify dangerous emails and mitigate this risk. These phishing simulations were designed to mirror the emails staff were used to seeing, including Microsoft and Google logins, as well as specific school emails.

If staff failed to identify the emails as phishing attacks, they were redirected to another training page to educate them on what they should have noticed, in order to help them quickly identify the telltale signs of phishing emails.

How it helped:

Following the training, staff were able to differentiate between phishing and legitimate emails, using skills taught to identify fraudulent emails before it was too late. Clicks on illegitimate links decreased by 95%, with the risk phishing posed to the Trust decreased significantly.

This enabled staff to feel more confident in the workplace and increase efficiency of online tasks.
